Project to increase port capacity to handle Belarus’ potash in progress in Russia

MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) – Belarus is implementing a project to increase port capacities for transshipment of potash fertilizers in Russia and intends to complete it as soon as possible, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in an interview with the VGTRK journalist, radio and TV host Vladimir Soloviev, BelTA has learned.

According to the president, Russia has provided a platform for the project to create additional infrastructure in order to increase the capacity for transshipment of Belarusian potash fertilizers through the ports of Russia. The head of state said that the project is being financed by private investment from Belarus. "We need to step up work so that we start using it at least in a year," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

In this regard, Vladimir Soloviev suggested using the services of new Russian Ambassador to Belarus Boris Gryzlov: "Now there is a very strong Russian ambassador in Belarus. Maybe it makes sense to carry out such projects as we did in Soviet times when project financing has strong support from a high state level to make sure there are no attempts to influence, to line up pockets. "

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that he is planning to discuss this topic with Russian President Vladimir Putin: "I will need support in terms of ensuring that there is no delay, no red tape with permits, paperwork ..."

As it has been reported, the need to use Russian ports for transshipment of Belarusian potash fertilizers arose after Lithuania banned the transit of these products from its ports.
