MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – After the government conference hosted by Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko on 5 January Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told reporters what the state quality mark will look like and how it can be obtained, BelTA has learned.
During the conference Chairman of the State Standardization Committee of Belarus Valentin Tataritsky said that a presidential decree on the state quality mark had been drafted. The decree approves the quality mark, the regulation on the quality mark, and the description of the quality mark.
“Developers of the state quality mark of the Republic of Belarus used the Soviet Union’s quality mark as the basis. Quality mark can be awarded to foods, consumer goods, and manufacturing and technical goods,” Valentin Tataritsky remarked.
In order to get a quality mark, in addition to making quality products that meet the world’s and Belarus’ best analogs enterprises need to have safe, environmentally friendly, technologically advanced, and aesthetic manufacturing facilities. “These indicators will be used to evaluate the products that aspire for a quality mark,” Valentin Tataritsky said.
But what will the quality mark look like? According to the committee’s chairman, over 20 variants have been worked out and five designs were shortlisted for the final discussion. Their designs are similar and are based around a pentagon that has been known since the Soviet times. But the details are different. One has the letter K at a 90-degree angle in the center. Another one has a stork.
“It seems to me that the Soviet quality mark is impeccable. Everything is minimalistic in it. I don’t think we should move away from good things due to artificial reasons. We don’t need excessiveness,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. “Neither the color range nor pictures should overload the mark itself.”
After the conference Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko told reporters that no final decision on what the quality mark will look like has been made yet. But it will be made soon taking into account the remarks that have been made. According to participants of the government conference, the pentagon or the letter K at an angle should remain as the basis, there is no need to radically redesign this symbol.
As for how an enterprise can obtain a quality mark, one can already say with confidence that the fighting will be tough. The state quality mark will have a very high status. It will be difficult to obtain, but very prestigious.
“The government awards quality excellence prizes every year. There is a selection procedure. Why would we change that? But we’ve decided to elevate [the status of this award] by a notch. The state quality mark will be awarded by a presidential decree and should become the highest mark of the fact that the product has been checked thoroughly,” Roman Golovchenko explained.
Contenders will have to go through a thorough selection process. But there should be no special restrictions for aspirants. Both large enterprises with a long history and young ones with new products can participate in the contest.
It is important to note that a quality mark will be awarded to specific products instead of the enterprise as a whole or a group of products.
The procedure will be stipulated by a government resolution and will resemble the one used during the Soviet Union period.
The first winners of the state quality mark are expected to be named in Belarus at the end of the year.
