PMs of Belarus, Kazakhstan discuss economic cooperation

ASTANA, 25 September (BelTA) – Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko held a meeting with his counterpart in Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov, BelTA has learned.

Roman Golovchenko thanked Alikhan Smailov for the invitation to take part in the International Industrial Exhibition INNOPROM. Qazaqstan.

The Belarusian head of government said that “the interest of Belarusian enterprises to participate in the exhibition is understandable”.

“We already have a number of successful cooperation projects, which can serve as a model for further development,” the prime minister said.  

The two prime ministers also emphasized progress in the current economic relations between Belarus and Kazakhstan. Roman Golovchenko cited the statistics figures, which reflected the dynamics of trade and economic cooperation, as an important favorable factor that testifies to the “climate” of bilateral relations.

“In 2021, mutual trade exceeded $1 billion, and we have kept adding little by little. In January-July 2023 we traded for $700 million, which means that with the same dynamics we will reach even bigger figures by the end of the year,” Roman Golovchenko said.  

For reference:
In 2022, mutual trade was $1,239.8 million (up 13.5%), exports - $989 million (8.5%), imports - $250.7 million (38.8%). In January-July 2023, trade - $683 million (15.4%), exports - $515.5 million (3.5%), imports - $167.5 million (78.7%).
