PM: Belarus, St. Petersburg need to put in more effort in expanding industrial cooperation

ST. PETERSBURG, 25 October (BelTA) – Belarus and St. Petersburg need to put in more effort in promoting industrial cooperation, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said at a meeting of the Business Cooperation Council of Belarus and St. Petersburg on 25 October, BelTA has learned.

“The Government of Belarus values the friendly and trusting relations with the Government of St. Petersburg that effectively works and interacts with our side. Last year trade between Belarus and St. Petersburg exceeded $2 billion, which is one of important outcomes of this work. We maintained momentum in January-August this year, our trade expanded by more than 10% over this time. We have all grounds to believe that this year we will do better than in 2023. The figures are good, but we should not rest on our laurels, or stop working persistently. We must make the most of our cooperation potential,” said Roman Golovchenko.

According to him, industrial cooperation generates an additional amount of added value. “Examples of successful cooperation include joint production of elevators, collaboration between Belarusian enterprises producing auto components,  Petersburg Tractor Plant and a number of others. But we need to take it up a notch, jointly address problems related to import substitution, and scale up cooperation in the manufacturing sector,” the prime minister emphasized.

“Belarus is interested in stable and consistent development of relations with St. Petersburg. We are ready to discuss any issues, consider specific proposals related to bilateral cooperation,” the Belarusian head of government remarked.
