MINSK, 10 December (BelTA) - The Belarusian economy is showing resilience to new economic challenges, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said at a meeting with members of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic in the Oval Hall to discuss a package of budget bills, BelTA has learned.
“Today the economy operates in difficult conditions of a growing external sanctions pressure and restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. These factors have a tangible impact on business and investment activity. In such conditions, our economy is showing resilience to constantly emerging economic challenges and threats. This year the main target for the government is to improve the well-being of people on the basis of balanced economic growth," Roman Golovchenko said.
According to him, business and government agencies operate steadily and generally effectively. "We honor all social obligations and guarantees. The number of people employed in the economy, the unemployment rate stay within the forecast parameters. Real disposable incomes of the population increased by 2.6%, and real wages - by 4.8%. Wages in the real sector of the economy have been growing solely thanks to the growth of labor productivity,” the prime minister said. “The government maintains, as determined by the government's plan of action and the five-year program for the country’s development, the ratio of public sector wages to the national average at a level not lower than 80% (actually 80.1%). Wages of doctors and teachers already make up 156.2% and 81.1% of the national average, respectively."
Roman Golovchenko stressed that in general, the economy is balanced, qualitative growth is ensured.
