PM: Belarus, Russia need to act quickly and in concert

MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) – Belarus counts on the support of the Russian Federation in the face of sanctions and urges to act quickly and in concert, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said during talks with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in Moscow on 14 March, BelTA has learned.

"The goal of the sanctions is clear: to engineer a crisis in the economy, to increase the number of dissatisfied, to make a new attempt at destabilizing the country and bringing to power the anti-Russian regime from among the self-exiled opposition. In these circumstances, we need to act quickly and in concert. Taking into account the high vulnerability of the Belarusian economy to external shocks, we are looking forward to the support of the Russian Federation in this difficult period," Roman Golovchenko said.

The prime minister confirmed the readiness of the Belarusian side to implement all agreements on economic integration within the framework of the Union State. "In the current conditions, we need urgently implement support measures. These measures include the restructuring of the credit indebtedness to the Russian government and financial institutions, transition to a new pricing system for Russian oil, which would ensure stable operation of Belarusian refineries. These are also our proposals to fix natural gas prices for Belarus in Russian rubles tagged to the current gas prices for the nearest Russian regions. These measures also comprise an increase in the supplies of Belarusian machine-building products to the Russian market, including through the removal of the remaining administrative restrictions,” he said.

According to Roman Golovchenko, Belarus considers the participation in import substitution programs as highly important. “Here the ministries will need to work in sync in order to maximize the mutual potential for import substitution. The parties also need to discuss the participation of the Belarusian defense sector in the implementation of Russian state defense procurement and removal of administrative barriers in military and technical cooperation,” he added.

The Belarusian prime minister expressed confidence that the parties would find mutually beneficial solutions.
