PM: Belarus is working hard to mitigate impact of sanctions for economy, households

YEREVAN, 19 November (BelTA) – Everything is being done in Belarus to make sure that the sanctions will not hurt economic operators and households, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told the media in Yerevan on 19 November, BelTA has learned.

“It is already hard to say how many rounds of sanctions have been imposed on Belarus, we are not pondering over this topic. Naturally, we are constantly working on restructuring the Belarusian economy taking into account emerging risks and those illegitimate and unfair restrictions. We are going to extraordinary lengths to make sure that economic operators and households will not be affected, that their living and working conditions will not deteriorate. What methods are we using and what tools? This is our know-how,” the prime minister said.

He emphasized that economic sanctions on Belarus have been in effect for a long time, especially the sanctions against Belarus’ industry giants. “Nevertheless, our economic performance over the nine months looks quite good, and this is the best response. Another thing is that it is impossible to understand those who call for more sanctions, it defies logic. By the way, my counterparts, in particular the prime minister of Russia, noted that the measures against our country are absolutely illegitimate and run afoul of international law. Nevertheless, this tool has become a universal instrument of intimidating those who do not agree with the development model that is being imposed on our country, and this is a new reality. Yet, within the EAEU these instruments of pressure yield virtually no results, and this is one of the main wins of our membership in the EAEU,” Roman Golovchenko said.
