Plans to build dairy and meat cattle breeding centers in Belarus-Russia Union State

MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – Dairy and meat cattle breeding centers will be set up in Belarus and Russia under a Union State program, Alexander Budevich, deputy director general for science at the R&D Center for Animal Breeding, told the media, BelTA informs.

The global trend in dairy cattle breeding is about creating and supporting reference population. There is not enough breeding stock in our country, this is why we are working on a program within the Union State framework to set up joint dairy and meat cattle breeding centers. The program is designed to form such a population and establish such centers in the fields of dairy and meat cattle breeding, and hay production,” Alexander Budevich noted.

In his words, the work on the program started around two years ago. The customers are the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry and the Russian Agriculture Ministry. The developers are the NASB R&D Center for Animal Breeding and the All-Russia Research Institute of Animal Husbandry.

The program is meant to form a database of common populations of animals, improve the examination of animals by means of DNA technologies and biotechnologies. “In general, these measures will merge our systems into a common structure of animal husbandry development in the Union State,” Alexander Budevich said.
