MINSK, 10 May (BelTA) – The first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant has already generated over 9 billion kWh of electricity. Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich made the statement on the air of the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.
According to the source, the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant generated over 9 billion kWh of electricity since it was connected to the power grid and till the first scheduled preventive repair.
The first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant was shut down for scheduled preventive repair on 25 April. Nuclear power plants undergo scheduled maintenance every year in order to secure steady performance of the equipment. The reactor assembly will undergo repairs, including steam generators, a pressurizer, main circulation pumps and a turbine generator. Metal will be inspected as well as welding seams of the reactor equipment and conduits of the systems, which are important for the safety of the first unit.
Partial reloading of the reactor with fresh nuclear fuel will be an important part of the forthcoming work.
