Orsha Artware Factory to merge with Orsha Linen Mill

Orsha Artware Factory to merge with Orsha Linen Mill

ORSHA DISTRICT, 15 June (BelTA) - Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko visited Orsha Artware Factory during his working trip to Orsha District on 15 June, BelTA informs.

The future of the enterprise was the main issue on the agenda during the visit. The head of state was informed about the proposal of Belwest to buy this factory and organize footwear production there.

However, the president made a decision to hand over the factory to Orsha Linen Mill by August 2021.

Founded in 1935, Orsha Artware Factory aims to restore, preserve and promote arts and crafts as part of the national culture, to satisfy the demand for handicraft goods, souvenirs, high-quality consumer products. Apart from handicraft goods, the factory offers clothes, table linen and bed sheets, shirts, pennons.

There are plans to organize the production of footwear at the factory. This issue was discussed at the level of the head of state a few days ago. According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the main objective was to preserve the current specialization of the factory and only then to start thinking about additional production facilities. “When we set up Belkhudozhpromysly some time ago, the main objective was to save artisans. The number of artisans is falling. We cannot lose traditional facilities at this factory,” the president stressed.

The president deemed it necessary to support the personnel of the factory. Sewers are in demand on the labor market. Workers of the enterprise have experience of work with linen. “We make wonderful fabrics in spite of all drawbacks. There are no such fabrics in the world. This is a difficult, labor-intensive process,” the Belarusian leader said. “We produce good fabrics and can produce good garments. But it is not enough. We need to step up efforts. There would be no fortune, but misfortune helped. The pandemic will help you. People will buy our fabrics, if we ramp up production.”
