GOMEL, 27 October (BelTA) – One-fifth of industrial products made in Belarus’ Gomel Oblast are innovative, Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Dvornik noted at the opening of the international forum Business Days in Gomel on 27 October, BelTA has learned.
According to the governor, the gross regional product per capita has surged sixfold over the last eight years. “Gomel Oblast manufactured almost $8 billion worth of industrial products in 2016, one-fifth of them were innovative,” Vladimir Dvornik said.
The region maintains trade with 110 countries and exports some 60% of its output.
“The region has attracted around $6 billion in foreign investment over the past six years. This helps us remain among the leaders in this field,” the governor added. The oblast has signed over $2 billion worth of investment agreements to date.
According to the Gomel Oblast governor, the participants of Business Days in Gomel exchange information during joint sessions and personal talks. Interaction between businessmen on specific projects is a priority. For such a dialogue to take place, plenty of preliminary work is done to take into account and match the requirements of foreign businessmen with the capacities of Gomel Oblast-based companies. “The goals of local authorities are to expand the range of reliable partners, promote and support investment projects in the oblast,” Vladimir Dvornik summarized.
The third installment of Business Days in Gomel has gathered delegations from 19 countries. It comprises several sections to discuss technologies to increase competitiveness, new forms of management to improve sales performance, and the like. The participants will attend a master class headlined “Economic, legal, and social aspects. From an idea to a successful business project”.
The international forum is mainly designed to provide an effective platform to establish direct business contacts, devise cooperation strategies, discuss topical matters of business development, and exchange experience.
The Gomel branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will hold the 14th national universal expo Business in Regions during the forum on 28 October.
