GOMEL, 16 May (BelTA) – An official Syrian delegation headed by Governor of Homs Province Talal Al-Barazi will take part, for the first time, in the 13th Gomel Economic Forum which will open on 20 May, BelTA learned from the department for foreign economic ties of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee.
The main purpose of the visit will be to establish business contacts and develop interregional cooperation. Among the issues that the guests plan to discuss with Gomel Oblast is the participation of the Belarusian side in rebuilding the infrastructure of the city of Homs ruined in the course of military operations.
According to preliminary data, more than 500 people from 19 countries have confirmed their participation in the Gomel Economic Forum. Among those who will participate in the event will be official delegations, representatives of the embassies, banks and financial institutions, businessmen. Such countries as China, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Czechia have shown interest in the forum. It is expected that the event will be attended by representatives of the authorities of Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine.
Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Jan Mladek will head a Czech business delegation. Ambassadors of Belarus and Czechia Valery Kurdyukov and Milan Ekert have confirmed their participation.
Gomel Oblast will offer 100 investment projects in different areas of the economy, including tourism, energy, agriculture, wood processing. They can be implemented jointly with local businesses or authorities or independently.
Gomel Economic Forum was first held in 2004. It has grown into a large-scale event that draws hundreds of representatives of business and official circles from different countries.
