GOMEL, 3 January (BelTA) – A new oil deposit has been discovered in Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian industrial group Belorusneft.
The new oi deposit is located within limits of the intermediate block of the Rechitsa-Vishansky fault of the Pripyat Trough. The new oil deposit has been named Ugolskoye.
An exploratory well 5,218m deep reached the Semiluki Horizon and produced an influx of oil and gas as large as about 39.5 tonnes per day.
Oil from the new deposit is hard to recover. The reserves are located deep beneath the surface in a low-permeability reservoir. The abnormally high geostatic pressure will help recover this oil though.
The in-place reserves of the new oil deposit are estimated at roughly 1.7 million tonnes. A more precise estimate will be available after the second exploratory well is drilled in 2017.
The Belarusian industrial group Belorusneft was founded in 1966. The company specializes in the surveying, prospecting and development of oil fields, well drilling, oil and associated petroleum gas extraction in Belarus and a number of other countries, including Russia, Ukraine, Venezuela, and Ecuador.
