MINSK, 7 March (BelTA) – Boeing and Airbus aircraft will be able to receive maintenance at a new aircraft repair factory in Belarus, BelTA learned from Vladimir Kostin, Director of the Aviation Department of the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry.
According to the source, a new aircraft repair factory is being built in Belarus. It is supposed to be commissioned by 1 January 2018. The factory will be able to service any types of aircraft, including Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, and CRJ brands. Vladimir Kostin remarked that the facility is being built next to the Minsk National Airport.
The official explained that the facility is not intended to service Airbus A380 aircraft. Every other type of aircraft, especially medium-range ones such as Boeing 737 will be able to get maintenance in Belarus. “Regardless of the type of aircraft the factory intends to get certification and service all types of aircraft,” stated Vladimir Kostin.
The new aircraft repair factory will comprise a number of departments. The first one is a department dedicated to aircraft maintenance and repairs. Its construction is virtually finished. “We intend to commission it in May. We are now taking care of selecting and buying the necessary equipment. The equipment will start getting installed in April. It is the central department, this is why it has to be built first. After that we will start building a department for washing and painting aircraft.” Design specifications and estimates for the second department are in development already.
The third department will take care of mechanical processing. It may start making components and nodes for aircraft in the future. “We would like to master new kinds of business in addition to maintenance. We would like to make components and nodes, repair air stairs and sport aircraft. Design specifications and estimates for this department have already passed expert evaluation,” concluded the official.
