MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – The Nature Management Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) has come up with a project to find promising areas for extracting shale gas and oil, BelTA learned from the institute’s Director Alexander Karabanov before the joint working session of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry on 11 March.
“We have worked out and forwarded the substantiation for a new project, which is aimed at evaluating the resource potential of shale hydrocarbons and detecting promising areas for prospecting and exploration operations. Shale gas and oil are the primary targets,” said the official.
In his words, the project has already been evaluated by state experts. The financial aspects are being taken care of. “The program is designed to find these natural resources, which can be found deep below the ground and require special technologies to extract. Such technologies have been in use in the USA for a long time but they are a new thing in Belarus. With our project we will begin their utilization in Belarus,” stated the Director of the Nature Management Institute.
He explained that if the project is approved and implemented, all the results will be handed over to Belarusian geological exploration companies.
