CHISINAU, 31 May (BelTA) - Moldova is in favor of expanding economic cooperation with Belarus and boosting bilateral trade through the current projects and new ones, Moldova Prime Minister Pavel Filip said as he met with Belarus Ambassador to Moldova Sergei Chichuk, BelTA learned from the government of the Republic of Moldova.
The Moldova Prime Minister said that Belarus is a traditional partner of Moldova and that the bilateral dialogue is open and constructive. For example, last year saw the talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov, and the meeting of the Belarusian-Moldovan intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.
“We should continue the current initiatives, including those aimed at promoting economic cooperation and expand bilateral trade. We have positive development in this respect. In the first quarter of this year the trade increased significantly. We need to continue to use the existing opportunities for expanding the bilateral trade,” Pavel Filip said.
The sides also exchanged views on the official visit of the Moldova Prime Minister to Belarus on 6-7 June of the current year. In this regard, Pavel Filip expressed the confidence that his meetings with officials in Minsk and the events to be held during the visit, including the business forum and the Days of Moldovan Culture in Belarus, will contribute to the development of the bilateral partnership.
