Minsk’s export up by 28.8% in H1 2018

MINSK, 6 August (BelTA) - The commodity export of Minsk-based enterprises rose by 28.8% in H1 2018 over the same period a year earlier, Tatiana Kravchenko, deputy head of the economy committee of the Minsk administration, said at a meeting in the city hall on 6 August.

The city’s export to the EU countries was up two times to a total of $264.5 million and to China up by 67% to total $5.6 million. Accounting for about 65% of sales, Russia remains the main sales market for Minsk enterprises. Ukraine goes second, Latvia third. The services export target has been beaten too.

Minsk accounted for 28.2% of the country's GDP in H1 2018. Minsk met all six key performance indicators set out by the government at the end of the year 2017. In particular, the gross regional product expanded by 5.3%, which was well-above the target of 3.2%.

“In January-July the GRP growth rate, according to recent reports, will remain the same. The city has been growing. We need to keep the current pace by the end of the year,” Tatiana Kravchenko said.
