Minsk to host international event on SEEA Central Framework 20-22 October

MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – Representatives of the countries of the CIS and Mongolia will gather in Minsk to study the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) on 20 to 22 October, BelTA learned from the National Statistics Committee of Belarus.

The National Statistics Committee will play host to the training course on the SEEA Central Framework (SEEA-CF) Energy Accounts for the countries of Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and Mongolia. Partaking in the forum will be representatives of the statistics offices of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. The forum has been organized by the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) with the support of the bureau of statistics of Norway.

The SEEA Central Framework was adopted as the international standard for environmental-economic accounts at the 43rd session of the United Nations Statistical Commission in March 2012. The system combines statistical data on environment, power consumption, and social and demographic situation in the country. It provides a basis for making decisions related to green economy and sustainable development.

The participants of the training course will study internationally agreed standard concepts and definitions and acquire skills in compiling energy accounts. The SEEA will help determine the most problematic areas that require political and economic measures for attaining sustainable development.
