MINSK, 2 September (BelTA) - The Belarusian dairy industry is technologically advanced and can manufacture virtually any product, Director of the Meat and Milk Industry Institute Alexei Meleshchenya told a press conference, BelTA has learned.
"Today, our dairy industry is technologically advanced, and well staffed. We also have scientific developments. All this allows us to make almost any product, taking into account the economic advisability," said Alexei Meleshchenya.
With a view to improving the quality and competitiveness, given Belarus’ accession to the Customs Union first and then to the Eurasian Economic Union, and taking into account the need to diversify export, the State Service for Standardization, Agriculture and Food Ministry and the Meat and Milk Industry Institute have been working to develop and update the national standards. The main task is to ensure unimpeded access of domestic products, from a technical point of view, to the markets of other countries and to protect, if necessary, our own market from inferior quality food, he noted.
"This year we are developing or revising 24 national standards, 21 of which are for dairy products, 3 for meat. This allows the Belarusian products to be competitive in almost any market,” said Alexei Meleshchenya.
