Lukashenko wants a cluster of energy-intensive enterprises around NPP

MINSK, 21 April (BelTA) - Belarus should exploit the advantages of nuclear power and develop a cluster of energy-intensive enterprises around the NPP and improve the competitiveness of the economy, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said when delivering his State of the Nation Address on 21 April, BelTA has learned.

“We must exploit the advantages of nuclear power to develop a cluster of energy-intensive enterprises around the NPP and improve the competitiveness of the economy as a whole. Today, I would like to state clearly: we will have ‘a surplus’ of electricity after the nuclear power plant is commissioned. There will be no excess if we prepare for this correctly. Let's rebuild our economy and let’s encourage our people to use electricity instead of natural gas, oil,” Alexander Lukashenko noted.

He cited the example of the automakers which are increasingly focused on electric vehicles. The same goes for motorcycles and bicycles. “Why should not we get engaged in this today? Why should not we encourage people to use electricity in their everyday life? Since we will have the so-called surplus of electricity, we can significantly reduce the prices. We must start preparing for this today. It is the task of the day,” the President said.
