SMOLEVICHI DISTRICT, 31 August (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko demanded to step up efforts to look for new sugar sales markets during his working trip to Smolevichi District, Minsk Oblast, on 31 August, BelTA has learned.
While listening to the report on the progress in the harvesting campaign in Belarus and in the region, the president asked about the harvesting of beetroots and about the situation on sugar sales markets. The head of state was informed that the harvesting of beetroots has begun recently. Experts promise that the sweetness of beetroots will be higher than last year. However, there is an overstock of beetroots on sales markets. In particular, there is a big overstock in Russia, and Russian prices per 1kg of beetroots is 50 kopecs lower than in Belarus.
“Don’t’ complain please. Your task is to sell agricultural produce,” Aleksandr Lukashenko responded. “Be more proactive. You should step up efforts to look for new sales markets. Agricultural organizations will harvest and make a stock of beetroots, and you should help them with sales.
“Please think where you will sell sugar,” the president said addressing the Agriculture and Food Ministry and the governor of Minsk Oblast. “Do not reduce production volumes. You should do your best to keep the last year’s level of profitability at least.”
