Lukashenko studies Belarus’ knowhow at Hi-Tech Park

MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko studied an exposition of new solutions by leading resident companies of the Hi-Tech Park on 11 April, BelTA has learned.

The head of state was shown digital solutions for agriculture, healthcare, education, finance, transport, trade, environment, robotics, lasers, optics, and microelectronics.

Aleksandr Lukashenko asked representatives of the IT community about existing technologies and their applications, as well as about promising areas of work and the knowhow that will be in demand in the future.

The president was shown visualization means that can be used in advertising and in exhibition activities.

One of solutions allows automating work processes in agriculture thus saving time, effort and money. The additional features and the information collected by this system can be useful for businesses and marketing. Aleksandr Lukashenko spoke highly of the knowhow.  

The head of state was particularly interested in solutions in the field of robotics. The price for such devices has dropped worldwide; therefore such robots can now be used in all kinds of applications, including manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture and even public catering. The president believes that the demonstrated solutions can be embraced by the domestic car making industry. “The era of robots is coming, no matter whether someone likes it or not,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko was told about blockchain technologies that made considerable advances after Decree No.8 “On promotion of digital economy” came into force in Belarus. A cryptocurrency exchange was launched in January. Its instruments turned out to be very popular. Among other things, they greatly facilitate investment generation process. Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that when signing the relevant document he relied upon the principle that the country would not lose anything from these decisions. “We will move forward,” he said.

The head of state got familiar with EPAM Systems, one of the world's largest IT corporations with Belarusian origin. It is currently among the Top 100 custom software development companies. The company's global revenue exceeded $1.8 billion in 2018. Its shares are listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The market capitalization exceeds $9 billion. The company employs over 30,000 specialists. EPAM is headquartered in the HTP. Aleksandr Lukashenko was briefed on some of the company's latest technologies already applied in healthcare.

Speaking about the company’s prospects in Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Let us agree. You do not need to look for any contact points with government bodies. The first deputy prime minister will assist you in any matter. If there are any obstacles, feel free to talk about them.”

Quite a few technologies for the healthcare sector were displayed during the president’s visit. They included a medical laser, the technology which is in high demand not only in Belarus but also abroad, and special equipment for transplantation. “Thank you for the healthcare sector,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.

There are technologies that are already widely used in the aircraft industry. Another potentially promising project is a conveyor analyzer of ore composition, which can be applied in the mining industry.

The president also showed interest in virtual reality technologies that, in addition to video games, can be used in the educational process and industry.
