Lukashenko promises radical steps to streamline business inspections

MINSK, 15 December (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko promised to take radical measures to eradicate excessive inspections of business ventures. He made a corresponding statement when making new appointments on 15 December, BelTA has learned.

In particular, the head of state deemed it necessary to continue red tape reduction, ease pressure on the manufacturing sector and business. “We will make very serious decisions in the near future. I have agreed with the Belarus President Administration (senior officials will be appointed in the near future) that we will revise such issues as cutting red tape and excessive inspections at the local level,” the Belarusian leader said.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, he is often told that it is hard to launch a business because of the current sanitary and fire safety norms and requirements. “Therefore, most likely we will make the following decision: to eradicate excessive things and to leave the sanitary, fire safety, etc. norms and requirements that are really needed,” the head of state said.

He gave a concrete example: “After the opening of the new enterprise the fire inspectors will carry out necessary checks in accordance with the new norms which I will approve, sign necessary documents, and that’s all. They will not have to inspect the same place once again. If God forbid something happens there the director will be responsible for it.”

“If you do not want inspections, we will not inspect. But you will bear responsibility. I think this approach will be more efficient. Then the director of the enterprise will make inspections every day. We will revise this issue in the near future,” the President said.

He added that it is needed to untangle the deadlock once and for all to help businessmen and entrepreneurs who bring money to the budget.
