GRODNO, 19 March (BelTA) – Belarusian companies have managed to penetrate the Chinese market and their presence over there is growing. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement as he talked to workers of the dairy company Molochny Mir on 19 March, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the agreement on selling Belarusian products in China had been made at the highest level. There is virtually no other way to start selling to China.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “It is a huge market everyone wants a piece of. And much bigger players than we are. Nevertheless, they maintain good relations with us. I cannot say the Chinese market is always a premium one for us, that is the best one, but it is important for diversification. We have to be present on many markets. We will not be so dependent on one buyer then. This is why we’ve penetrated this market and are expanding there.”

In 2020 Molochny Mir Company alone shipped $4.5 million worth of goods to China, three times as much as in 2019. On the whole, Belarus exported $250 million worth of food to China.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also mentioned Pakistan and India as promising markets for selling food. “We’ve been on very good terms with Indians since the Soviet times. They are very good people, stable and constant. But our trade with them is insufficient while it is a colossal market,” he remarked.

Belarusian companies also gradually step up their presence on the European Union market. “It is good that you maintain relations with the European Union and ship at least a bit of these products there. When a path has been established, it will be possible to use it at any time despite any upheavals in our relations. Politics is politics sometimes but the private sector sees its own ways and roads. This is why we shouldn’t lose relations with them,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
