MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko may raise a number of issues related to the oil sector during the upcoming talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on 9 September. During a meeting with Belorusneft Director General Aleksandr Lyakhov on 6 September, the Belarusian head of state asked if there were any topics worth discussing in this regard, BelTA has learned.
“We need to build up on our opportunities in the sector every year. We need to do this not only abroad. Although, you are doing very well in the Russian Federation. You have gone from well repair works to oil production. Tell me how things are there. This is a very important topic for me ahead of the meeting with the Russian president. Perhaps, you will have some suggestions that will be of interest to Russia and Belarus. I will discuss them with him,” the head of state said.
“You have started extracting oil in the Russian Federation. If you need any support in this regard and if you have any suggestions, I am ready to help,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
Aleksandr Lyakhov told the media that the results of Belorusneft's work in Russia were discussed in detail during the meeting with the head of state. “We talked more of what Belorusneft has already achieved,” he said. In Russia, there are already service companies in well repair and drilling and enterprises that produce oil and gas. “This year has been productive for us. We got a new license area as part of the company. It is situated in Yamalo-Nenets Okrug,” Aleksandr Lyakhov said. The matter pertains to the oil producing asset acquired by Belorusneft in Russia - Yangpur Oil Company.
