Lukashenko instructs to ramp up buckwheat production in Belarus

SMOLEVICHI DISTRICT, 3 April (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko gave an instruction to ramp up the production of buckwheat in the country during his working trip to Smolevichi District, Minsk Oblast, on 3 April, BelTA has learned.

The head of state was informed that Belarusian agrarians covered nearly a half of the country’s demand in the previous years. The rest was imported from Russia. However, certain difficulties with import have emerged recently. And the president’s instruction is attributed to that.

“We need to produce more buckwheat to meet Belarus’ demand,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

In his words, it is necessary to grow buckwheat regardless of its yield. At the same time, the head of state emphasized the importance of systematic approaches and pointed out the need to select the most appropriate soils for this crop. “We need to study this crop, growing technologies,” the president said.

He praised the fact that agricultural production is on the rise in Belarus.

Agriculture and Food Minister Ivan Krupko informed the president about the progress in spring fieldwork.
