SLUTSK DISTRICT, 23 October (BelTA) – The agricultural industry did well in 2020, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media during a working trip to Slutsk District on 23 October, BelTA has learned.
The president noted that the year was definitely not easy, but in terms of the results of the agricultural industry was successful. "The year was very good, despite the fact that it is leap, COVID and political," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
Belarus has gathered a rich grain harvest: more than 10.3 million tonnes, including 8.5 million tonnes of grain crops, corn, rapeseed.
The president once again said that Belarus' coronavirus response strategy was the right one. The country did not shut down the economy, agricultural companies continued working ensuring food security. “You understand now that we did the right thing by refusing to impose a lockdown during the COVID spring. Now farmers say that the warehouses are stocked [with finished products] at only 10-15%. Everything sells fast to other countries. We will be clothed, fed and will earn $5-6 billion on export of agricultural products,” the president noted.
