MINSK, 6 May (BelTA) – In the next one or two years Belarus will have everything necessary to make its own automobiles. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement as he visited Minsk Motor Plant on 6 May, BelTA has learned.
The President continues his tour of Belarus’ top industrial enterprises. Visiting Minsk Motor Plant, the head of state noted that a government session would be held soon to discuss automobile manufacturing. Specialists are now taking a close look at the matter in order to address the existing problems and get a competitive product in the end in the shape of an automobile, a tractor, and so on. “In the next one or two years we will have the entire set required to make our own automobiles,” said the head of state.
The President spoke at length about the BelGee car manufacturing project. Alexander Lukashenko said he was confident that Belarusians will like this car thanks to affordable prices and simple maintenance procedures.
Speaking more about the development of the domestic automobile engineering industry, Alexander Lukashenko noted that the development of the automobile manufacturing program would not be protracted. “Our engines make up a big part of the program. We need new ones. Minsk Motor Plant has made a lot of prototype engines. It is necessary to test them faster and start batch production,” said the President. The effort will secure the company’s future.
