Lukashenko demands progress in business sector

MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – All the decisions made to promote business should be implemented in full, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said in his State of the Nation Address on 24 April, BelTA has learned.

“Work is underway to update the legislation in line with the recent ordinance to promote entrepreneurship. “Once again I warn lawmakers against distorting the spirit and the letter of the decisions. If you have doubts, you’d better ask for advice,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

In his words, a number of important legal acts have already come into force this year heralding the beginning of the next stage of the country's development. “In order to make it successful, the government authorities, businessmen and also our legislators should intensify their efforts. We need sound and timely amendments to the existing codes and laws in order to avoid contradictions and inconsistencies. This is a responsible task for our MPs,” the president added.

The Belarusian leader is confident that the principle of economic efficiency must prevail. “Today, the plans to develop deep processing of raw materials, timber and agricultural products still remain on paper, despite huge capital investments. This sector can earn dozens of billions, though. We need to explore new areas. “We have been developing the IT industry. We have provided unique conditions in the Chinese-Belarusian park and placed the focus on small and medium-sized business,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

The Belarusian leader is confident that steady development of traditional and new sectors will help Belarus take an active part in global processes.
