Lukashenko: Belarus will produce its own high-quality car

MINSK, 11 August (BelTA) – Belarus will produce its own high-quality car, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he talked to employees of organizations at National Airport Minsk, BelTA has learned.

One of the employees of Minsk Civil Aviation Plant asked about the production of Geely cars in Belarus, the plans to produce up to 60,000 cars. "We will manufacture them," the head of state confirmed.

When asking the question the employee noted that the cars proved well in the domestic market and that they are growing more popular. There is even a waiting list to buy it.

"Months-long waiting list is already progress. In my time it was years. This is a big plus. But it's bad that you have to wait. This is on the one hand. On the other hand, I am glad that there is a demand for this car. In the first months, there were doubts. But I was hoping that people would appreciate this car. It’s good, it's domestically produced. With all the issues (I often had to get involved in resolving the issues of maintenance and spare parts), we still keep the project under control and will promote this car," the president said.

"We have agreed with the Chinese partners on the licensed production of the cars. I think we have identified two brands. Therefore, we will have our own Belarusian-made car. We have made progress and we will reach the goal of producing our own, almost 100% Belarusian car. A high-quality car," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
