MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – Belarus’ manufacturing industry should expand by 5-7% annually like in 2021 that was a good year for the country’s economy, Belarusian president Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he delivered his annual Address to the Belarusian people and the National Assembly on 31 March, BelTA has learned.
Speaking about Belarus’ economic performance this year, Aleksandr Lukashenko said that manufacturing is the cornerstone of Belarus’ economy: “We do not need to raise anything from ruins here. We have resources to finance its growth. If we need more money, we will find it.”
In addition, financial stability has been maintained in the real sector of the economy, while net profit and profitability of enterprises have grown, the head of state added. “Today these are the key criteria for evaluating performance of managers of all levels. Of course, enterprises differ. There are struggling ones, we have discussed them at a recent government meeting. This year we should figure out what to do with poorly-performing enterprises. We will need to decide whether we will bail them our or re-purpose them. We need to do something with them. Even though they are few, not as many as before, we should sort things out there. Annual growth in manufacturing should be the same as in the successful year of 2021, or 5-7%. Ministers should ensure maximum workload for Belarusian enterprises. Their output should reach a 10-year high,” the president demanded.
According to him, the country has a huge potential, unique world-class, efficient production facilities. “MAZ has rolled out new models of electric buses. BelAZ has developed and is already shipping 30-tonne innovative haul trucks powered by liquefied gas, as well as an electric vehicle that has been launched or will be launched these days. Belarus’ first driverless tractor has been developed at our tractor factory. The Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation has launched the production of amino acids. Amkodor’s enterprises have developed more than a hundred import-substituting products and component parts. And this is not a complete list. Every industry should offer breakthrough products and solutions,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
