Lukashenko appoints new heads at several state enterprises

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko approved the appointment of new heads at a number of state-run enterprises on 26 September, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Avramenko was appointed Director General of Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ trademark). He previously held the post of the First Deputy Director General at the enterprise.

Andrei Panchenko, the former Vitebskenergo Director General, will head the State Production Association of the Electric Power Industry Belenergo.

Ivan Demidov was named Director General of the Belarusian State Association for Procurement, Processing and Supply of Ferrous and Non-Ferrous Metal Scrap and Waste - Director General of OAO Belvtorchermet. He previously worked as head of the planning and economic analysis department of the Belarusian Steel Works – Management Company of the Belarusian Metallurgical Company.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also approved the appointment of Olga Gorlova as Rector of the Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine. She previously worked at the university as academic secretary.

“There are no major and minor enterprises here,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

Universities train personnel for industries, Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “I wish you, a very young specialist, to succeed in the post. The load will be huge. This is especially true about the university which is of great relevance for the country. Veterinary medicine is the major problem in agriculture today,” he said. “The Vitebsk State Academy of Veterinary Medicine is the key institution training the relevant personnel.”

As for Minsk Tractor Works, Aleksandr Lukashenko said that the decision on MTZ should have been made long time ago. “MTZ is a brand name for Belarus, first of all. Secondly, the tractor is the main tool to use in many venues, from streets and courtyards to agriculture. The tractor is engaged in transportation, plowing, sowing and many more activities,” the head of state said. “Belarus boasts the best tractor production traditions in the world. This is one of the world's leading tractor manufacturers.”

Speaking about Belvtorchermet, the president emphasized the need for even more careful use of secondary resources. “Recycling is an important part of sustainability. Belvtorchermet is running at half its capacity. We need to make it operate to the full. I often cite glass as an example. Switzerland makes 80-90% [of glass products] out of used glass. We have less than half of it. We still have a lot of do and learn. This is a very important issue today,” the head of state said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko wished every success to all the new appointees. “You are mostly young people. I really hope you will succeed,” he said.
