Lukashenko announces plans to inspect promising industrial enterprises

BORISOV, 10 December (BelTA) – During a visit to the POZHSNAB company in Borisov on 10 December, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko announced plans to inspect promising industrial enterprises to discuss their development prospects, BelTA has learned.

The head of state noted that in spring, summer, and early autumn he pays much attention to agriculture, because this sector is crucial for the country’s food security. And now, time has come to assign a bigger priority to industrial enterprises.

“In late autumn, winter, early spring, we will prioritize industry. In the near future, we will have a look at promising enterprises,” the president informed. It is necessary to identify sectors and individual companies where Belarus has made considerable progress and developed good competencies that can be scaled up in the near future. “We need to build on our competencies wherever we can,” the Belarusian leader said.

Belarus is also exploring new economic sectors, especially breakthrough, high-tech ones. A case in point is the construction of the nuclear power plant. But this requires significant financial resources and a long period of time. “It takes a lot of time and money. Therefore, while building something new and investing in some new projects, I thought: why are we doing this? We need to develop our competencies wherever we can. We can produce vehicles (MAZ, BelAZ, Belkommunmash). Their vehicles ran solely on an internal combustion engine in the past, now they make electric vehicles that sell very well. We see a great demand for buses, especially in our main market, so we began to make buses in large quantities and are even building a new plant that will be commissioned in January. We built it in literally two years,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“In other words, we need to move forward relying on existing competencies and invest money in this. We have already tried to do this on our own,” the head of state emphasized.

One such example is the POZHSNAB enterprise. “Of course, I am happy for this enterprise, for your team. But as president, I am interested in something else, and this is important: will we be able to produce more if there is demand for these products? For myself, I have concluded that such private enterprises should be supported. You produce the final product and have links with many state-owned enterprises. Your machines fulfill a noble purpose - they save people,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
