Localization at Belarusian-Chinese car venture BelGee virtually at 50%

MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) – Localization at the Belarusian-Chinese car manufacturing joint venture BelGee has reached virtually 50%. Belarusian Industry Minister Vitaly Vovk made the relevant statement on the air of the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.

When asked when the joint venture will reach the 50% localization target, the official noted: “We have virtually reached the goal.”

Vitaly Vovk said that two enterprises were launched together with the holding company BATE in April in order to make seats and automobile radiators. The enterprises are supposed to start working soon.

“The commissioning of the car factory opened a new era in the development of Belarus’ production sector – car engineering. The country likes the product. The new system to promote sales now works well. The banks didn’t expect such a strong demand for BelGee cars. Some models are reserved well in advance. Cars to be produced in August already have their customers. We don’t make 1,000 cars per month but we already make more than 900 cars. It is now necessary to get close to 2,000 cars per month by the end of the year,” concluded the industry minister.

The Belarusian-Chinese car factory BelGee was set up in 2011 to produce Geely cars. The first car rolled off the production line in February 2013. Located between Borisov and Zhodino, the factory uses completely knocked down kits to assemble cars. The designed capacity of the factory was 60,000 cars per annum at the first stage and 120,000 cars per annum at the second stage. The factory intends to produce Geely Atlas NL3 and NL4 crossovers and the FE3 sedan using a full fabrication cycle.
