MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) - Latvian ports are interested in increasing the transit of Belarusian oil products and attracting cargoes from the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park Great Stone, Latvian Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis told journalists following the talks with his Belarusian counterpart Andrei Kobyakov, BelTA has learned.
“We would like to transport bigger volumes of Belarusian oil products via Latvian ports. We would also like to make the Latvian-Belarusian transit corridor more competitive by electrifying the railway line,” Maris Kucinskis said.
Latvia is in favor of developing the trilateral cooperation with Belarus and China, especially in part of attracting cargoes from the industrial park Great Stone and their transit via Latvian ports.
“Belarus is and, I hope, will remain Latvia’s important economic partner and the largest trading partner in the Eastern Partnership,” the Latvian PM emphasized.
Belarus and Latvia will co-host the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. Maris Kucinskis expressed hope that the two teams will meet in the final match in Minsk. “This is a very good wish,” Andrei Kobyakov remarked.
