Kazakhstan experts studying Belarus’ NPP construction practices

MINSK, 2 August (BelTA) – Representatives of Kazakhstan are getting familiar with Belarus’ experience in building its nuclear power plant, BelTA learned from the information and public relations department at the BelNPP.

Kazakhstan’s delegation is touring the Belarusian nuclear power plant as part of IAEA’s technical cooperation program. The visit is designed to study implementation of Belarus’ national nuclear energy program and the project to build the NPP.

The delegation of Kazakhstan includes members of the Department of Atomic Energy and Industry and the Committee of Nuclear and Power Supervision and Control of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy, Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants, and Kazatomprom.

On 1 August, the delegation was told about the course of construction, personnel training at the BelNPP training center, information work at the company and public relations. The delegation from Kazakhstan will meet with heads and specialists of structural divisions of the BelNPP at a joint session where the parties will communicate best practices in implementing the BelNPP construction project.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built using the Russian standard Generation III+ design AES-2006 near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
