Ireland implements alternative energy projects in Belarus

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Ireland is implementing alternative energy sources construction projects in Belarus, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said in an interview to the United Nations Radio, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“We are currently busy with the development of alternative energy sources. We have been closely cooperating with the countries that possess rich experience in the matter, for example, with Ireland and Germany. I am responsible for one of the projects, which is implemented in cooperation with Ireland, with the total cost of nearly $100 million. The project focuses on the construction of sources of solar, wind energy and so on,” Vladimir Makei said.

According to the minister, in spring 2016 Belarus joined the Paris Climate Agreement. “I believe that the document will encourage our traditional industries think more about innovations, new projects that will be based on advanced technologies and will help reduce the consumption of conventional energy sources. We believe that Belarus’ accession to the agreement will give an impetus to the country’s economic development,” he added.
