BREST, 2 January (BelTA) – Representatives of the private sector from the State of Nevada, USA intend to visit Brest in February, BelTA learned from Denis Nepsha, Aide to the Director General of the Brest Branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The relevant agreement was reached as top officials of the Brest Branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry attended the 2nd European Innovation Week in Lublin, Poland in September. In particular, Director of the Polish-American Chamber of Commerce of Nevada John Petkus, Director of Special Projects of the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development Pawel Pietrasinski, and a member of the Nevada state economy board Randy Innis are expected to visit Brest. The main purpose of the visit is to get familiar with the IT industry in Brest Oblast, in particular, the Brest R&D Park.
The park’s director Dmitry Makaruk said: “These businessmen have cooperated with Lublin for a long time. They arrange so-called acceleration sessions with residents of the Lublin Science and Technology Park twice a year. American investors look for potentially interesting startups able to penetrate the global market. They are interested in working with the Brest R&D Park using the same scheme. We are going to present projects and businesses of our resident companies. If there is a mutual interest, it is quite possible that the meeting will result in an investment round.”
ZAO Brest R&D Park is a major innovation center and the key incubator for small business in the region. It offers ready infrastructure, preferential taxation, and professional B2B services. It was home to 52 resident companies as of late 2018. The number is expected to reach 60 in early 2019. The resident companies pursue various business interests. More than half of them are IT companies. There are also manufacturing companies, service companies, engineering, design, and education companies.
