Investment service agreement seen as one of drivers of Belarus-China cooperation

MINSK, 25 July (BelTA) – The investment service agreement will become one of the driving forces of Belarus-China relations, Head of the Main Economic Integration Department of the Economy Ministry Marina Yezhova said, BelTA learned from the press service of the Economy Ministry.

The final 7th round of negotiations on the Agreement on Trade in Services and Investment between Belarus and China started in Minsk. A wide range of issues is to be discussed during four days of the talks. The negotiations on the wording of the draft agreement are to be completed within a week. The parties are to reconcile their positions on certain provisions of the Investments chapter, to agree on the wording regarding trade in services, to finalize the remaining positions on access to investments, as well as to complete the talks on the movement of individuals.

Belarus’ delegation is led by Head of the Main Economic Integration Department of the Economy Ministry Marina Yezhova, China’s delegation is headed by Deputy Director General of the China’s WTO Department at the Ministry of Commerce Yusong Chen. Taking part in the negotiations will also be representatives of the Economy Ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Taxes and Duties and the Operations and Analysis Center under the President of the Republic of Belarus.

During the opening ceremony of the talks, Marina Yezhova expressed hope that the investment agreement under development would become one of the drivers of Belarus-China comprehensive all-weather strategic partnership.

In turn, Yusong Chen noted that the successful completion of negotiations on this agreement will help create a stable and predictable environment for service providers and investors, and promote bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
