India ready to invest in pharmaceutical industry of Belarus

MINSK, 29 February (BelTA) - India is ready to invest in the pharmaceutical industry of Belarus, Mr Abhay Sinha, Regional Director of the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion of India, told reporters, BelTA has learned.

“We are ready to invest,” Mr Abhay Sinha said. He noted that there are different ways for assimilation of Indian technologies, for example, through joint ventures.

According to the Regional Director, the Belarusian market is small in terms of population but at the same time very interesting for Indian companies because it has a high export potential. Belarus can be a springboard for exports to other CIS countries.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Pankaj Saxena stressed that the pharmaceutical industry is an important area both for India and Belarus. “I believe that cooperation in this field between our two friendly countries will be beneficial and useful. We can start joint manufacture of high-quality, effective and inexpensive drugs," he said. Work is already under way.

Today Minsk is playing host to the presentation of the pharmaceutical and health companies in India and a B2B meeting. The event features 37 pharmaceutical companies from India representing small and medium-sized business. They all plan to debut on the Belarusian market. At the moment Belarus cooperates with 11 major Indian companies.

The event has been organized by the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India, the Indian Embassy in Belarus, Technics and Communication company with the assistance of the Healthcare Ministry of Belarus.
