GOMEL, 19 September (BelTA) - Gomselmash will supply 80 units of machinery to Zimbabwe by the end of the year, Gomel Oblast Governor Ivan Krupko said at the meeting of heads of partner regions, representatives of diplomatic missions and business organizations held as part of the Gomel Economic Forum, BelTA has learned.

Outlining a wide range of cooperation in the international arena, Ivan Krupko mentioned the strengthening of partnership ties with the countries of the African continent. The Gomel Oblast residents deeply empathize with the residents of the northern regions of Zimbabwe, who have faced an unprecedented drought. “A few days ago, Belarus sent humanitarian aid to help the country overcome the consequences of the natural cataclysm. I am confident that the courageous, resilient people of Zimbabwe will cope with the difficulties. For our part, we will fulfill the terms of the contract and deliver 80 units of Gomselmash machinery to this African country by the end of the year,” he said.

According to Ivan Krupko, Belarusian agricultural machinery has proved its worth on local fields. “Thanks to it, farmers in Zimbabwe harvested a record-high wheat crop last year. The Ministry of Land, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water Resources and Rural Development of Zimbabwe gave such a high assessment of the joint government program on mechanization of the agricultural sector with Belarus,” the governor said.

The governor also mentioned the growing interest of friendly Tajikistan in the products. “The recent visit of the Tajikistan’s agriculture minister to Gomselmash and Gomelagrokomplekt testifies to the fact. We are ready for further cooperation and not only in the agricultural sector,” he added.

The 18th Gomel Economic Forum has brought together representatives of Belarus and foreign countries. The business program focuses on the key issues of the south-eastern region development, including industry, export, innovation and investment. These days, the forum participants have a chance to explore the economic potential of the region, discuss issues of interest as part of panel discussions, find reliable partners and conclude mutually beneficial contacts.
