Gomel Oblast, Serbia’s Vojvodina Province sign cooperation agreement

GOMEL, 19 May (BelTA) – An agreement on cooperation between Gomel Oblast and Serbia’s Autonomous Province of Vojvodina was signed during the Gomel Economic Forum on 19 May, BelTA has learned.

The document was signed as Gomel Oblast Governor Vladimir Dvornik met with heads of official delegations and representatives of diplomatic missions.

During the meeting the governor noted that Gomel Oblast pursues a consistent policy aimed at bolstering mutually beneficial contacts and friendly relations with foreign partners. So far Grodno Oblast has signed over 200 agreements on cooperation with many countries. The number grows higher every year. “The geography of our business interests grows larger as well. In the last three years alone we established sister city ties and social and economic relations with regions of the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Kazakhstan as well as Azerbaijan, Armenia, Serbia, Vietnam, Georgia, Italy, and China,” said the Gomel Oblast governor.

In his opinion, the participation of foreign guests in the Gomel Economic Forum is an important aspect since they are the ones to form initial impressions regarding investment proposals for businessmen in their own countries. Such meetings add to the development of international economic, social, and cultural relations. Moreover, they determine prospects of future mutually beneficial cooperation, Vladimir Dvornik was convinced.

President of the Vojvodina Province Government Igor Mirovic signed the agreement on the part of the Serbian side. He remarked that during the latest meeting of the presidents of Belarus and Serbia in Minsk attention was drawn to interregional cooperation between the two countries among other things. “Vojvodina is one of the most developed regions in Serbia. There is a great potential for stepping up relations between Vojvodina Province and Gomel Oblast in various areas. The signed document will help accomplish it,” he stressed.
