Gomel Oblast, Kherson Oblast may set up joint plants in machine-building, farm processing

GOMEL, 15 September (BelTA) – Belarus’ Gomel Oblast and Ukraine’s Kherson Oblast plan to set up a joint venture in machine-building and agricultural processing. This became known after the talks that took place on 14-15 September as part of the visit of the Ukrainian delegation, BelTA learned from the press service of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee.

At the meeting in the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee head of the Kherson Oblast Administration Andrei Gordeyev suggested setting up an assembly of Gomselmash harvesters in Kherson Oblast. In the coming years, local farmers will have to replace about 500 overaged harvesters. "Therefore, we are very interested in the implementation of this project and are ready to submit concrete proposals," he said.

Gomel Oblast is also interested in establishing contacts in the agricultural industry. Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Vladimir Dvornik said that the oblast imports a significant amount of high-protein fodder for animal husbandry, including oilseed meal. "Your manufacturers could use the premises of Gomel Fat Factory for making oil and selling it under their own trademarks. We could buy the remaining oilseed meal at contract prices," Vladimir Dvornik said.

During the visit the interested agencies discussed the launch of regular flights between Gomel Oblast and Kherson Oblast, as well as the possibility to build a port terminal on the Dnieper River on the border with Ukraine. Joint use of waterways will allow organizing uninterrupted shipment from the ports of the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the Caspian Sea, and the countries of the Danube River Basin.

During the visit to Gomel Oblast the Ukrainian guests familiarized themselves with the potential of the Gomel-Raton free economic zone and Gomel Airport, visited the largest industrial enterprises, including Gomselmash, Gomel Chemical Plant, Mozyr Oil Refinery, Spartak, Gomelobldorstroy, agricultural and animal husbandry facilities.
