GOMEL, 29 March (BelTA) – In 2020, enterprises of Gomel Oblast increased exports to the Chinese market by a third year-on-year, Gomel Oblast Governor Gennady Solovei said at the session of the Gomel Oblast Council of Deputies of the 28th convocation, BelTA has learned.
Products of enterprises of Gomel Oblast are in demand in the Chinese market. Gomel Oblast export to China equaled $91 million in 2020, up by 32% year-on-year.
All in all, local enterprises export more than 65% of their output to 92 countries. In 2020, Gomel Oblast enterprises sought to maintain their presence in traditional markers and increase export to faraway countries. Up to 30% of the total export was bound for faraway countries, which was 6.5% more than in 2019.
“Gomel Oblast is the leader in manufacturing in the country. In 2020, it produced more than Br22 billion worth of industrial goods. The region is in the lead in terms of per capita output. Gomel Oblast accounts for 13%, or Br4 billion, of the country’s total export,” Gennady Solovei noted.
According to him, Gomel Oblast significantly contributes to the country’s overall output. In 2020, it accounted for over 10% of Belarus’ gross domestic product, 14% of fixed-capital investments, 19% of industrial output, around 15% of agricultural output as well as 12% of retail trade and over 7% of wholesale trade.
