MINSK, 1 April (BelTA) – Gomel Oblast and China’s Jiangsu Province will jointly participate in the construction of the new Silk Road, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA after a Gomel Oblast delegation returned from Jiangsu Province.
During the visit that lasted from 29 March through 1 April Gomel Oblast Governor Vladimir Dvornik met with Jiangsu Province Governor Shi Taifeng. The sides discussed ways to step up cooperation between the two regions, primarily in trade and investment affairs. At the end of the meeting the heads of the regional administrations signed an agreement on the joint participation in the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt.
The establishment of twinning ties between Mozyr District and the city of Xuzhou was mentioned among the main results of the visit. As part of the visit a contract was signed on supplying OAO Spartak confectionery products to China. The non-woven materials manufacturer SvetlogorskKhimvolokno, meat industry companies, and other ones will also sell their merchandise to China. The relevant agreements were signed during the visit.
The Francisk Skorina Gomel State University signed agreements on cooperation with two Xuzhou-based universities and an agreement with the Nanjing University of Science and Technology on creating the Gomel Oblast Sinology Institute named after Confucius as part of the Gomel State University.
Organized with assistance of the Consulate General of Belarus in Shanghai, the visit was intended to strengthen and expand bilateral interregional cooperation between Gomel Oblast and Jiangsu Province.
