MINSK, 29 August (BelTA) – Belarus and Tambov Oblast need to increase trade, Belarus’ Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said as he met with Tambov Oblast Governor Maxim Yegorov on 29 August, BelTA has learned.
Roman Golovchenko noted that visits of delegations from Russian regions are an excellent opportunity to discuss the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation and to thrash out ways to address various development issues. “A direct dialogue is very useful, it allows staying current with the changes and adequately responding to new needs and opportunities,” he stressed.
The prime minister noted that the program of Maxim Yegorov’s visit is very busy. “The governor is set to visit a number of Belarusian mechanical engineering flagships. This industry is one of the hallmarks of Belarus, its products are in demand throughout Russia,” he said.
The Belarusian head of government gave his take on trade prospects with Tambov Oblast. “We have seen some growth. However, the trade did not fair that well in the first half of 2023 if we compare it with 2022. We need to analyze why this happened, identify objective and subjective reasons for this situation,” Roman Golovchenko emphasized.
According to Maxim Yegorov, Tambov Oblast is interested in purchasing Belarus-made trucks, passenger vehicles, utility vehicles, and agricultural equipment. “By the end of the year, we plan to purchase more than 30 road vehicles, dump trucks for the oblast capital and see how they will work on narrow streets of our city,” he added. Livestock enterprises of the region are interested in fodder equipment and feed distributors.
Tambov Oblast enterprises supply Belarus with food products, dyes, plastics and products made from them. In turn, they buy chemical fibers, mineral fuels and many other products from Belarus.
“Our industrial enterprises have built close cooperative chains to ensure smooth supplies. It is also important to explore and promote new avenues of cooperation. Yesterday, part of our delegation visited the Scientific and Practical Center for Multifunctional Unmanned Systems of the National Academy of Sciences; agreements were signed. We plan to join efforts to develop and implement the latest technologies and programs in the field of UAVs,” the Tambov Oblast governor said.
Tambov Oblast and Belarus have a cooperation agreement in trade, economy, science, technology and social matters and culture. A new action plan for 2023-2024 has been signed this year. The plan is to be reviewed taking into account new agreements signed during the ongoing visit.
