German business interested in long-term cooperation with Belarusian companies

MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) – The German business is interested in long-term cooperation with Belarusian companies, representative of Saxony Economic Development Corporation Manfred Liebl told reporters before the economic and technological forum of the Belarus-Saxony business council in Minsk on 1 July, BelTA has learned.

“We are interested in only long-term work in Belarus. Your country is our closest neighbor included in the Eurasian Economic Union. It seems to be very promising in the future,” Manfred Liebl noted. In his words, these territories were previously viewed only as a sales market, today the German side is considering the possibility to set up joint ventures here.

Manfred Liebl said that German businessmen are, first of all, interested in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) of Belarus as they are the backbone of the German economy. “It is possible to open joint ventures on the territory of Belarus because your country is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, which is interesting for us,” he explained.

President of the Leipzig Chamber of Industry and Commerce Wolfgang Topf remarked: “Right now, in this difficult time, it is very important to establish personal contacts between business representatives and associations which support entrepreneurs.”

Minsk hosts the economic and technological forum of the Belarus-Saxony business council and a business matchmaking session between the representatives of Belarusian and German companies on 1 July.

The agreement on the establishment of the Belarus-Saxony business council was signed by the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Leipzig Chamber of Industry and Commerce on 7 December 2009 to step up trade, economic and investment cooperation between Belarus and Germany.

The business council is a coordination and consultative body which aims to raise the efficiency of business ties between Belarusian and German organizations and associations in manufacturing, energy sector, mechanical engineering, vocational training and other industries.
