MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – Georgia will start assembling Belarusian elevators, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media following the negotiations with Georgian Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikheil Janelidze, BelTA has learned.
“We see considerable potential for stepping up trade and economic cooperation in industry. The Georgian Elevator consortium was established with the participation of the Belarusian elevator manufacturer Mogilevliftmash in Tbilisi in August 2017. The enterprise is meant to assemble Belarusian elevators at the Georgia Institute of Technology,” Vladimir Makei said. The minister expressed confidence that other Belarusian and Georgian companies will follow this example.
Speaking about trade and economic relations in general, Vladimir Makei noted that trade keeps growing in 2017. Bilateral trade in H1 2017 almost reached $60 million. “We have agreed to make every effort to meet the target set forth by our leaders: $200 million in bilateral trade,” he emphasized.
The fourth session of the Belarusian-Georgian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation is scheduled for late 2017. It is designed to take stock of joint projects, review the results of joint work, and outline new promising avenues of cooperation.
