YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – The Belarusian garden in Sakhalin will produce its first harvest of apples and pears in 2019, Sakhalin Oblast Agriculture Minister Mikhail Kuzmenko told the Belarusian and Russian federal mass media on 3 September, BelTA has learned.
Some 9,000 Belarusian trees, including 8,200 apples trees and 800 pear trees, were planted in Korsakov District in spring 2017. It is the first fruit garden of the scale on the island.
Mikhail Kuzmenko said that Belarusian breeders suggested the varieties most suitable for the Far Eastern climate. Sakhalin farmers hope to harvest first apples next year and get rich harvest in 2019.
Belarusian journalists are visiting Sakhalin Oblast of Russia as part of a press tour to the region organized by the Union State Permanent Committee and the international information agency Russia Today with the support of the Sakhalin Oblast government.
