MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) – Finland’s accumulative investment in Belarus exceeds €100 million, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Finland Alexander Ostrovsky said in an interview to Ensto Today magazine, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“I think this figure is not small, especially taking into account that the population of Belarus and Finland is 9.6 and 5.5 million people respectively and we have no common border. It is also necessary to take into consideration a common tendency of diminishing Finnish investments outside Finland,” the diplomat said.
In his words, as of early 2015 in Belarus there were 22 Finnish-funded companies, eight joint ventures and three representations of Finnish companies.
Alexander Ostrovsky cited a number of examples of successful cooperation, i.e. the activity of Olvi company and the construction of OMA stores (Kesko) in Belarus, the modernization of the Gomel cold storage facility (in cooperation with Ingman Group), and the opening of the innovative bread-making center of Leipurin Company in Minsk.
“Components of good partnership with Belarus are simple. For successful cooperation with Belarusian companies one need to be a reliable and creative partner. Apart from the fulfillment of commitments, such partners should be flexible in discussing complex business issues and be open for new opportunities, approaches and long-term perspectives,” the Ambassador said.
In his words, Belarus is interested in the development of modern global economic mutual relations.
Alexander Ostrovsky also added that Belarusians and Finns stick to positive pragmatism in discussing business matters.
